Bear Bonanza

I'm interested in teddy bears today because when I was trying to go to sleep, I was cuddling with a teddy bear. Mom suggested that I might want to write on my blog. When I was trying to think of something to learn about, I looked at my teddy bear and thought of bears. I told Mom that I've always wanted to learn about bears. A few minutes later, Mom said, "I know a cool story about why stuffed bears are called 'teddy bears.'"

So I looked up "teddy bears" on wikipedia. I learned that President Teddy Roosevelt went bear hunting. And they made a cartoon about it. Then people started making stuffed animal bears that they called "Teddy's bears."

I also learned that a president a long time ago, he was sick when he was a baby. It made it to where he couldn't walk anymore. His name was Franklin Roosevelt.

I think teddy bears are cool!

Blooming Broccoli

I am interested in broccoli today because yesterday we were eating broccoli when me, Micah and Joey asked, "Are broccolis really trees?"

Mom said, "No, they're flowers."

Then we were all like "Cuckoo!"

Today I did some research (mostly here) and learned that broccolis really are flowers, not trees. And they actually turn out to be pretty. They are green with yellow petals.I learned that even after the broccoli flowers, it still tastes good. And if you cut the main head off of it when it's a flower and eat it, it grows a new one only not as big. It tastes just as good. (Or bad, if your opinion about broccoli is bad.)

Basil leaves keep away cabbage worms, because cabbage worms don't only eat cabbage. They eat broccoli and I think spinach. One of the reaons they eat broccoli is because I learned that broccoli is actually a type of cabbage. (I learned that just now from Mom.)

My opinion about broccoli is bad. (Unless it has Ranch on it!)

The Quake Shake

I was wactching Cartoon Network a few months ago when a commercial about the earthqake in Japan came on. So I decided that I would make fudge and sell it to raise money. Because that's what God would do if He was here. And I ended up with more than $1000!

I learned that to make fudge, you have to stir, stir, stir-stir-stir-stir-stir. And stir again. It made me feel very good to know that I gave $1029 to the Red Cross so that they could help all the people in Japan.

Whale Washout

Today I want to learn more about whales. So I'm reading the book, Whales. Here are some of the facts I learned:
  • The blue whale is the largest whale and animal in the world
  • Blue whales weighs as much as 20 African elephants
  • Whales are mammals not fish
  • When whales jump out of water it is called breeching
  • Belugas and dolphins are whales
Whales are my fourth favorite animal!
